May 2018

May Started with more music.  CJ had her spring Choir concert.  She had a small solo and she just nailed it.  I was surprised that her teacher gave her such a small solo because she was the best singer.  I am not just being a proud momma, because I heard from many others who came up to me and asked why did CJ get such a small part.  The only thing that I could think of was that she did not want to give her a big part because she was a teachers kid and people would think that she only get it because she was my kid.  CJ things that the others got it because she gave out those bigger parts to those that did not got to Jekyll Island.  It was all ok, I was just very proud of my daughter.
Sunday was the last day of Hebrew school for the year.  It was also Rabbi Masters last Hebrew school.  Everyone was very sad even though it was a fun day for the kids.  We had a family cookout at the end of school.  I was very busy setting up running to get cakes, and then cleaning up in the end.
For mother day we did not do much.  Jay and CJ got me a jewelry hanger for my closet so that my long necklaces stopped getting broken in my jewelry box.  The next weekend for the Pig in the Park BBQ contest in Williamston.  Jay was worried because we have had none stop rain and he had never cooked in the rain before.  He was also excited about it because he had never cooked in rain and it was going to give him a good learning experience.  It was a long night for Jay and CJ wanted to stay the night with him again.  CJ spent the night and day running around with her friend Julian who's dad is also a cook.  They only get to see each other at BBQ contests but always have a great time together.  They found out this time that they a common friend.  Julian went to school with David who CJ goes to Hebrew school with.  It can be such a small world.  Jay was happy with his box that he turned in for Pork but not happy with his ribs.  In ribs he scored very badly but in Pork we took 2nd place.  We were so happy we could not believe that we did that well.  We were so happy last year when we got 5th but 2nd place was incredible.  Jay was saying that we have done 4 contests and walked for a prize 3 times.    Jay give CJ $20.00 of the prize money for helping.  She was so happy about that.

The next week at school was state testing so CJ and I were exhausted all week.  By Friday we were happy that the week was over and we were going camping despite all the rain.  Friday CJ got to go on a Choir trip to Carowinds amusement park.  She was very worried about the trip because none of her friends were going on the trip with her.  She was very worried at first.  I told her that she could hang with her teacher or I had several of my former students going on the trip and told her to hang out with them.  At first she found a girl to hang out with but then the girl ditched CJ for some of her other friends and CJ was left by herself.  She then found the group that had my former students in it.  She joined them and told me that she had a really good time after she joined their group.  They were a lot of fun.

I had to pick her up from the school at 8:00, so Jay and I took the Camper to the campground and set it up.  It was wet but not raining very hard.  We have had rain for weeks none stop so everything was wet at the camp ground but we said that was not going to stop us.  We got CJ and had a great evening at the campground.  The next morning we got up and went into town for breakfast and to get CJ's best friend Millie. We then come back to the camp ground and CJ and Millie went swimming.  They played and had a good time.  Sometimes swimming and sometimes playing games in the camper.  The rain really held off until the evenings which was very good and we were able to have a great time by the campfire watching the beautiful views.

CJ and her friends got do some fun things at the end of the school year like build a volcano.  The last two weeks of school I sent packing up because I had to move classrooms.  CJ helped her music teacher pack but did not want to help me.  I recruited by students to help me and they really liked that.  I said that it was a math lesson in staking boxes to make a tessellation design.
