September 2022

September started with our Labor Day camping trip.  I so needed this trip.  It was nice just to get away and not think about anything.  I just sat and watched the water and eat.  Chanessey came with us and poor CJ started to not feel good after the first night.  She just wanted to sit in the camper and rest.  I felt so bad for her because she brought her guitar and Chanessey and she was in no mood to goof around with either.  She did try to get her guitar out and play but she was having trouble singing. Saturday we went CJ to the store to get herself some Nitequel to help her feel better.  It was nice to send her with her in the car.  She thought that it was funny that you could not buy Nitequel until you were 18.  The lady at the register thought that she was 18 and just let her get it.

We thought that we would rent a kayak for the girls and let them pedal around the lake but Sunday the weather started to get worse and with CJ not feeling good we just decided to wait until next time.  Monday we got up early and headed home.

When we got home I decided that I was going to spend the next week trying to get caught up on things and get a better attitude about my job. Jay spent the week getting ready of the Maulden BBQ contest.  I found that having a better addituted at work helped.

On Thursday CJ received her first letters from the University's that she applied to.  She got a letter from Anderson university.  She was going to wait to open the letter until her dad got home.  He and her uncle Ron where taking the cooker to Maulden.  As she sat there staring at the letter she was afraid that it was going to be nothing and she would be disappointed that it was nothing.  So she decided to open it and not wait.  The card on the inside had her name handwritten.  It was the acceptance letter to Anderson University.  She then got an email from Lander saying that she was accepted there as well.  In a few days she was get a box from Lander with her letter from them and come college swag.  She was so excited and could not wait to tell her dad, but when he called she would not tell him over the phone.  She said that she had big news for him when he got home.  Ron did not understand what a big deal this was.  He just said so you did not get into Harvard.  I know that he was just trying to joke with her but I wish that he would have congratulated her first before trying to joke.  This was a very big deal.

Friday I left work early and meet Jay at the BBQ contest and started work on my trifle. I was not happy with the way that they turned out because it was so warm and the cheese cake started to get warm so it was not as good.  I ended up not doing so well with it as well.  I was at the bottom of the list.  I did not score well at all. I think that I am going to try something else for the anything but next time.  I am done with trying the trifle.

CJ and Jillean got to see each other and hang out for a while Friday night.  CJ was saying that it was so fun seeing her and how they seem to be into so many different things but at the same time they have so much in common.  She said that she loves seeing her and hanging out.  They decided that when we compete in Williamston that they will do a Graduation photo shoot together at the park.  Since Williamston is right before graduation and they will be going off to college.
We did not serve to the public the trifle.  We served sausages.  I could not believe how well the sausage went over.  We did so good selling them.  People loved it and we made enough many to cover the cost of all the supplies that we used.  It was a nice day on Satuday, Jay had a nice time with his brother.  We did not do well in the contest but we did have a good time as a family and Jay said that it did not matter that we did not do well.  He was just happy that nothing went wrong and we had great weather.  Jay thought that it was fun that he was on the news. https://www.foxcarolina.com/.../pitmaster-prep-mauldin.../

Monday, I had a professional development day.  All the special education teachers from the district where there so I got a changes to talk to Coach Lomax who had my class last year how he was able to handle all the work and behavior.  He said that there was an aide in the room all day so when he needed to work on paperwork he just had her teacher the kids.  He also stated that he was not required to do all the things that I have been asked to do.   It was a really good in-service and I decided to change everything that I was doing in my classroom to see if I could help my students more.  As I introduced the harder work to my students and gave them modifications to help them complete it.  I was excited to see that this was working.  That they were raising to the challenge and where doing well.  I was telling my principal about it and asked her to come in and observe.  She did and was excited to see that they where completing grade level work with modifications.  She even started to record me teaching them. I was so happy that she was seeing that I could do this.  I am able to teach these students. Jay was right I just needed time for her to see what I could do.

With CJ receiving acceptence to 2 school she did not want to put a third into the mix.  She was already confused on which school to pick.  So we decided that we would go visit both Anderson and Lander again and then make the decision.  We where scheduled to go see Newberry but we decided to cancel that and just go to Anderson. We did the open house tour of the school.  CJ really liked the school and everything that they had to say.  The only real concern that she had was being Jewish and a very Christian school.  She was worried about anti-sematisum and not being excepted by the students.  She said that she had to deal with that through high school and she did not what to deal with that through college.  But she did like the fact that she qualifies for honor college and a full ride scholoship.  A free ride through school maybe worth it.  It was a nice day for the 2 of us to see the school and talk about options.

Sunday was the start of Rosh Hanashanah.  We went to services and CJ sung in the Choir.  It was so nice to see people that I have not seen in 2 years because of COVID.  It was fun seeing CJ's Hebrew school friends all grown and in there senior year.  I could not believe that David had a mustache.  It was such a fun evening.  I was so happy to sit and talk with Elizabeth for a while I have not see her since 2019.  CJ did the best job she has ever done with singing Heal Us Now.

Sorry for the shaky camera

The next day I did not take the day off because I had so much to do at work.  Lindsay brought me a gift for the holidays.  It was so nice and made me feel so good.
The rest of the week was just busy.  Hurricane Ian was suppose to hit South Carolina.  So on Friday they canceled school.  CJ was so happy about that.  She was so excited that we did not have school.  I know that it was going to be a lot more work for me and then my kids would get behind.  On Friday the weather was not that bad.  We had winds but it was not as bad as they said that it would be and no rain.  I decided to do my E-Learning at the school and took CJ with me.  We decided to get coffee and have breakfast together at On the Grind and then go to the school.  I was glad that I decided to work at the school.  I got a lot done in my classroom.  I had a couple of students show up for E-learning but not many.  CJ got all of her work completed.  We then decided that we would go home and clean house so we did not have to worry about it over the weekend.  CJ was going to have Emma come spend the night so that worked out well.  We got the house all clean just as Jay got home from work.  We then spent the evening watching TV and just relaxing as a family.
