November 2017

CJ wanted to try out for step team at school.  When Mrs.Artman came and told me that CJ was trying out I could not believe it.  CJ had never done Step before and I was worried that she could not learn the steps or went to practice enough.  I could not have been more wrong. That is all that she does around the house.  She is always stomping and clapping, sometimes I regret letting her join because she just will not stop.  She did really well in the tryouts and I was told that she had a high score when she tried out.  She said that she loved being on step team but was really nervous in her first performance.  This surprised me because she has never been nervous before getting up in front of people.  She said that this was different because it was in front of the school.

CJ said that step team has been good for her as well because for the first time in PE she was not chosen last.  That one of the girls from step team was the team captain and picked her in the middle.  She was so happy about it.  PE has been rough for CJ this year so it was good to have something good happen in PE.

CJ's 6th and 7th grade Hebrew school class had to help lead services.  The 6th grade had CJ help a lot with the pray's because she knows them so well.  CJ was upset that Miles got to do the Aliyah.  I told her that she could not do everything in the service and it was fair to let others do what they are good at.  Rabbi still let her do the second Aliyah blessing.  I am really try to work with CJ on not being so overwhelmed with disappointment when she does not get the parts she wants.  Even if you are good at something does not always mean that you are the right person for the job.
CJ made the Principal's academic honor roll for first quarter.  She had a really high GPA and even got a 100% in her math class. I can never complain about CJ's grades.  She is so smart.  I had to giggle just a little during the awards ceramony becuase CJ forget that it was awards day and just put on a Tshirt and jeans.  The t-shirt was from Palmetto Elementry that said Mustang pride.  Our school and feeder high school is the yellow jackets.

After working for Anderson District 5 for 11 years I was finely about to attend a conference. This was a math conference but it was really good.  I enjoyed learning some new things and getting a chance to get some inspiration for my classroom.  After so many years of teaching you just feel so stagnant in the classroom.  You do not get to watch other teacher or see what others are doing, so this was so great.  Some of the things that I learned about I was already doing, some was new and innovative. I think that I came back to my class with a better attitude which was what I needed.
For Thanksgiving this year we just stayed home and had a very quiet meal at the house.  Jay spent some finishing the new cabinet for the kitchen.  I kitchen looks so much better. Just the floor, counter top, and walls are left.

Jay smoked a turkey and a brisket on the grill and I said that I did not what to cook so the dinner was up to him.  He did ask that I make my sweet potato crunch for the dinner.  I really enjoyed the quiet day at home.
