August 2018 continues

After Lydia left work continued. On Wednesday CJ and I went to a meet the new Rabbi event at Pat Cohen house (A board member of temple).  CJ was the only kid at the get together.  The other family with kids that were invited did not come.  Lucky most everyone else that were at the party were members of the choir so CJ was not totally left out.  She was bored, but Pat had a piano.  CJ went to the car and get her piano books and just started playing.  It kept her busy and made everyone at the party very happy.  They said that this would be the best Rabbi get together we they got a live concert.  Jay sent the week getting his BBQ stuff ready for Garrett's wedding.

Friday we all pilled in the truck and went to Georgia for his wedding.  We got there and just unhooked the cooker.  We were to have a rehearsal for the wedding but no one  really know what to do so we just left and all went to dinner.  Garrett's grandparents were very nice, but it is always very awkward because they are my husbands ex-wife's parents.  CJ and I pretty much spent the time talking with Garrett's grandparents and ourselves.  Garrett's step brother and half brother who is CJ's age would not talk to us. It was a very weird dinner. We left and sent back to the hotel to get some sleep before getting up early to start cooking.  The hotel was not very nice but it was a bed to sleep in.  Jay had picked the hotel by the cost not as much the rating. So that night there was people drunk out by the pool which was by our room.  In the morning the drunks were still by the pool past out.  In the morning,  we got up and took all of our change of clothes with us and went to Garrett's soon to be mother-in-law's house.  We started cooking and making all the sides.  It was a really nice morning with the three of us and then 4 when Garrett got there.

By the time it got closer to the wedding is when things got really awkward again.  Some of Garrett's family members got into a fight and refused to come to the wedding.  Well, one of them were to come and do Megan's makeup and help her get ready for the wedding. Garrett's mother Vicky stated that she was not going to do Megan's makeup and someone else needed to do it.  No one else was stepping up to help so I said that I would help.  I did Megan's makeup and helped her into her dress.  As I was helping her into her dress Vicky come in and Megan give her a gift for being her new mother-in-law.  This was so awkward because I was the step mom and helping her but there was no thank you but Vicky who refused to help got thanks yous.  It was appropriate to give Vicky a gift and thank her for all that she had done to get ready for this day but I just thought that should not have been done in front of me while I was bend over buttoning a hundred buttons.

Then the rain came.  Everything was getting wet and it was coming down so hard that we had to postpone the wedding for a bit.  The rain did not last long, so everyone ran out and started to wipe down seat and get ready to start.  The judge and everyone looked to be to went to do next so I started barking orders and letting the judge know what to do.  I had to run to my seat and was sweating from running around.  The wedding itself was very short.  After the wedding come people asked Vicky to help set out the cupcake.  She was very upset because this was her sons wedding and she needed to take pictures with him.  So I took over again and set up the cupcake and Jay set out the food.  Again Vicky nor anyone else said thank you.  My whole family were treated like caterers not father and family of the groom.  CJ was very much left out. But the food was very good and after we eat we packed up the went back to the hotel.

When we got back to the hotel CJ wanted to go swimming because it was hot and she had had a long day.  We went to the pool and CJ was having fun swimming for about 5 minutes when the manager come out and stated that because it was getting dark CJ had to get out of the pool and leave.  I stated that the sign on the door of the pool stated that it was open until 9:00 and it was only 8:30.   He kept telling me that no one could be in the pool after dark.  I told him that last night people were in the pool all night.  I did not argue anymore and just had CJ get out of the pool and we went back to the room.  I was very happy to get up the next day and go home even though I had to work that afternoon. We made it home in time for me to wash up and get to work by 2:00 for 6th grade orientation.

Monday, CJ started her first day of the 8th grade.  It was very sad for me that this was going to her last year in middle school and our last year together at Glenview.  Her middle school years have gone by so fast.  She wore her dress that she got for her Bat Mitzvah and looks so cute.
This school year started off rough for me.  I have a lot of students with behavior issues and they did not wait even a couple of weeks before starting to show out.  I have had to spend a lot of time with our assistant principle and trying to call parents.  I feel like I just can not get caught up.  I have never had such a busy start to the year and could not wait until Labor Day weekend.
