On the 2nd, Jay started his new job. I went and got all my hair cut off again and that evening what to my supervisors funeral. It was sad to think someone so young had passed away of cancer. She even had a 6-year-old son she left behind. There was someone up with CJ during the funeral. She got really testing and had a argue with me about everything I said. Even if I was wrong about some of the things I was thinking about but the tone that she took with me was not good. She was getting more and angrier, which was not good at a Funeral when I was already so sad. I wish I would have left her at home. On the ride home and even after we got home her attitude did not change. Right after dinner, I told her it was best if she just went to bed. Her dad even asked if she was able to get her period because she was so testy. I wish I know what was wrong with her. If it was the sadness of the funeral and the confusion that was stressing her out or just the fact that I took her away from her TV which is all that she has wanted to do while we have been on break. Most of the time when I try to get her to do something that is not TV related over this break she has been a little testy but nothing like she was during and after the funeral. The life we lead with a teenager. We should have done more over break, but with not a lot of money and I just wanting to not do much myself this was how it went.
The next day we went back to school. It was busy because I know that I had so much to get done before I was going to have to go on leave for my hip surgery. Saturday we went up to the mountains for CJ to go to Choir practice at Laura's house. It is so pretty at her house. While CJ sang I worked on IEP and lesson plans. I really did not think that I was going to get everything done, but somehow by Friday everything was complete and my sub plans were on my desk and really to go.
Saturday evening we went to the airport and pick up my sister Lydia. She came to help me with the first week after my surgery. Later, I would regret not having her stay 2 weeks. It was so good seeing her and I was so glad that she was going to get to spend time with CJ. We laughed that Lydia was going to spend so much time at hospitals these days that she needed to earn frequent flyer miles for hospital visits. It was funny how she was telling me how the surgery would go and all that would happen while I was under.
Sunday, Lydia come with us to Hebrew school. She has been trying a gluten-free diet to help with her heart and stomach problems. Going to Greenfields was not fun for her, but we found that they had a gluten-free bagel. She said that it was not bad and needed me to get the name of the bagel. She helped me set everything up for OyVey Cafe and for the snack. After Hebrew school, we ran to Costo to get some things for the week. I know that they had a gluten-free pizza that I wanted to try with Lydia here.
Monday the day of my surgery came. I was not to have surgery until 1:00. That meant no food or drink until 1:00. I had to be at the hospital by 11:00 it was a long morning. I made Lydia leave the house early and we went to the mall and just walked around to keep my mind off not eating and the surgery. We had a great time talking and just hanging out. I was so glad that she was here.
My surgery went long and Jay had lots of time to pick CJ up from Step team practice and make it up to Greenville to the hospital before I was even out of surgery. The doctor told them that they surgery want fine but I had more damage to my hip then they were expecting. Later, I would learn that both my cup and ball were damaged and they have to resurface both. My cartridge had pulled away from my cup and they had to create a mirofractor to make new cartridge. I do not know if it was the anesthesia or all the extra work they did on my hip but I had trouble when I came out of anesthesia. My blood pressure and heart rate would not come down. I had so much pain in my abdomen that I was not able to handle the pain which may have been the cause of my heart rate going up so high. I am sure CJ seeing me like this was not good. Lydia said that she wanted to leave the room and just listen to her music. She said that after a while she wanted to run the stairs of the hospital. CJ never said that seeing me in pain at the hospital bothered her but Lydia said that her actions said something else.
They had to admit me to the hospital for the night because they could not get my pain and blood pressure down. This total throws me off because I was planning on this surgery being an outpatient surgery. Jay stayed with me through the night and slept on the couch next to me. He really did not sleep because you can not sleep in a hospital. I was worried about him staying because he just started the new job and I did not want him to miss work, but he said that he was not going to leave my side until I was ok. By the next morning, my blood pressure was down and the pain in my abdomen had subsided. Jay left and went to work. Lydia came as soon as she got CJ off to school. After we got released from the hospital me had just enough time to get something to eat before we had to head over to physical therapy.
At physical therapy, Lydia learned how to do some exercises with me at home to help me start to heal. I really did not learn how to walk on crutches and would struggle with that for weeks. I was then told that I would be on crutches for more than 3 weeks because of all that was done to my hip. We finally went home and I was very happy to be home. Jay did get into trouble for being late to work and they even told him that he could leave if he needed to go back to the hospital. I thought that was very nice.
The next few days were a blur. CJ learned to make her own lunches in the morning and get ready for school on her own. Lydia took very good care of me, doing everything: getting her meals, helping me to the bathroom, taking me to PT and even just being great company. Friday, CJ did not have school so she hung out with us. CJ and Lydia did Yoga together and just got to spend time talking. Lydia took CJ to temple for me and was making Jay shake his head at some of the funny questions she would ask him about Southern life. Lydia said that she enjoyed sitting with CJ's friend and temple and listening to them talk about anime. I was so sad to see her have to go home on Saturday.
Saturday CJ had her American Girl Club, she was the featured doll this month. So I fixed her hair and Jay took her to her meeting. She said that it was weird having all the parents wanting to take pictures of her next to there children. It was a very turn of events for her. She is no longer the little girl enjoying the big girls dressed up as the dolls. She is the doll. She said that she really liked helping the girls and Jay decided that because CJ was playing the Native American Doll that he would start looking into his family genealogy to see about his Native American side of the family. He is having trouble finding much after his grandmother.
Monday CJ did not have school and stayed home with me. She did not release how much I could not do yet but she tried not to complain too much about having to help me with everything. The next day, I had to stay home by myself. I think this was good for me because I had to try to do more things without help. As the week went on I got better and better. My hands hurt from the crutches and walker but at least I was moving around again. Thursday I went to the doctor for my post-op visit. Everything went well and he told me I could go back to work on Monday but still not able to drive for a little longer. I also was going to need to be on crutches for about 4 more weeks. When I got back from the doctor I found that the Temple sisterhood sent me some beautiful flowers with a get well soon. I could not believe it and it was so wonderful.
That second week I was out of work was spirit week. Wednesday CJ the school had a pep rally and CJ's step team did a routine with the cheerleaders. I asked CJ if she wanted to be a cheerleader and if she enjoyed learning the Cheer. She stated that she really did not like Cheer but she loves being on step team minus all the drama.
