May 2019

May started slow I think that is because we know that by the end of the month we would be getting out of school.  After spring break we were ready to get done with school.  We continued to work on the front porch and got that all painted.  I can not wait for it to be completed.  It will be so nice to sit outside.  On Sunday we took CJ to her first minor league baseball game.  We were not able to get seats so we stood most of the game then we found some seats that people were not using and took them.  I think that we were not the only ones that did that. After we found seats it was very nice seating and watching the game.  CJ had a good time the whole time.  My hip was hurting a lot until we were able to find someplace to seat.

After the game, we came home and went to the park.  We walked around a bit on the trail.  I was surprised that the trail was a mile long and I was able to walk it.  It was not easy, about I did it.  I am hoping that this is the beginning of my getting back to normal with my hip.  Mother's day was the next weekend and Jay was to start on his new shift. So we spent the morning working on cleaning the car and the camper.  CJ got to try the pressure washer.
We then went shopping so Jay could try to sleep before starting the night shift.  Jay hated his new shift and after two days on the shift, he quit his new job.  He said that he just could not take it and it was just the worst.

The next weekend was the Pig in the Park BBQ competition.  It seems that when you really want to win and feel that you have to you do not. Everything went well on Friday, but on Saturday I got up and took my medication so that I could stand all day on my hip.  About an hour later I started to itch and my whole body turned red.  I was having trouble breathing and started to shack.  CJ and I ran to the urgent care and I get a shot for the allergic reaction.  Soon after the shot I was ok and headed back to the competition to serve food to the public.  It was a very disappointing day.  It was a good lesson for CJ that you can work your hardest but sometimes you just can not win them all.  That you just have to pick up and keep trying until you do win.  The person who won the public keeps saying that their BBQ was not good.  But the judges thought different.  This is like getting a job.  You may think that you are the best for the job but someone else gets it.  That is what I had to keep reminding myself to as I kept getting turned down for the administrative jobs.  Maybe the judges will like us better next time.

The next weekend we went camping.  Friday CJ did not go with us she went with Milly and Lilly to a lock-in at Milly's church.  CJ had fun until the bible passage that they were taught was anti-Jewish.  She said that she could not believe that religion was teaching hate and she just did not understand it.  She said that after the sermon some of the kids started saying things about Jews they did not know that she was Jewish but the comments really got to her and she went and sat out of some of the games because the kids were saying mean things that really bothered her.  I talked to her about the fact that religion should not teach hate but it does happen and that we just have to ignore it and be good people ourselves.  She said that the more she learns about other religions that she was very glad that she was Jewish.  She was just glad that her friends Milly and Lilly did not listen to that sermon and that they still were her friends.

The rest of our camping trip was great.  We relaxed and had a very peaceful weekend.  We bought the cat with us because we go camping so much and we wanted her to get used to the camper so that she would be able to come with us on regular bases.  Katana with her cataracts will go blind and she will not be able to be left alone at home. So her being able to go camping with us is important.  She did very well in the camper.  I learned that to swim you had to use a lot of hip movements.  The next day after swimming my hip was sore but I was glad that I had gone swimming.

The last week of May CJ had her EOC (End of Course) exams for her high school classes.  She received a 100% on her ELA test and a 97% on her Algebra I test.  I was so proud of her.  I could not believe that she did so well on this high school tests.  She was so funny because after her Algebra test she was not able to get her score back right away and after school, she was freaking out.  She did not know how she did and was after that she did not do well.  I told her to go to Mr. Mayfield and he would have her score.  So after school, CJ went to Mr. Mayfield and found out her score and felt so much better.  She was just upset that there were things on the test that she had not been taught and if she would have seen that before she would have done so much better.  I love my smart child.
