January 2020

We started the new year with a nice peaceful day at home.  I made cabbage rolls and Jay worked on fixing a few things around the house.  It was a very nice relaxing start to the year.
Thursday we went over to Lister's house and had a view board party.  We made vision boards for our New Year's goals.  It was just fun sitting around talking with the ladies and CJ had fun hanging out with Millie. It was a good way to start the new year because part of my goal of the year is getting out with the girls more and have fun.

After we went back to school, the rest of the month was pretty uneventful.  CJ volunteered at the museum almost every weekend.  That could be why she got the volunteer of the month for the second time.  She loves helping out at the museum.

CJ will be attending the military ball for ROTC.  So we got to start our dress shopping.  After Choir we went to the mall and started trying on dresses.  She had so much fun trying on fancy dresses.  She found one that she loved and felt so beautiful in but it was $240 and I just could not see spending that kind of money on a Freshman ball dress. So the looking continued.  We sent to different Goodwills looking for dresses.  Jay was surprised the Goodwill had ball dresses.  I think it is just because he had never had to look for them.

CJ wanted to quit Choir and in December Laura talked her out of it.  I do not think that she really wanted to quit she was just frustrated and tired.  Laura was so good about trying to make her feel important and let her do her sole during the January services. She also had a small sole for another song.  She still does not always want to go to practice but she is not so down on being in the Temple Choir.

At the end of the month, We went to see a Holocaust survivor speak.  He was different than the other survivors that we have seen.  His talk was more inspirational then what happened.  He spoke at love for teens and CJ very much enjoyed his talk.  He was only a year old when he was in the work camp and they did medical experiments on him, so he does not remember life in the camp because he was too young.  He just knows the pain as a result of the experiments.  His parents were also in the camp and they all survived.  CJ wore her star of David shirt to the talk and Sami the speaker loved it and had to get a picture of her for his website. After the talk, I went to him personally to ask him about after the war what life for him was like growing up in Europe as a Jew and did he have his Bar Mitzvah.  He talked to CJ about keep standing up for herself and being proud of being Jewish. It was very inspirational for both of us.
On the 30th I took the day off of work to go to the doctor to see why my hip was hurting so much again and have my follow up for the kidney stone.  Everything looked great with my kidney's, no permanent damage. She said that I should just continue to watch my diet and drink more water.  Which is so hard as a teacher.  My hip appointment was not as good.  I did get a shot in my hip to help with the pain but it is not working as well as it did when I had it last summer.  According to my x-rays, there is lots of arthritis.  My report stated, "AP pelvis, lateral of the right hip indicate advanced degenerative changes in this hip with near-complete joint space loss and marginal osteophyte seen off the head-neck junction and acetabular rim." At this point, I am not sure were to go with that report.  I just want to be back to normal and do all the things I use to do before I had all these hip problems.
