On Saturday the 8th we got snow and thought that Hebrew school may be canceled on Sunday, The snow was very pretty coming down and it did not last long. Sunday CJ was looking forward to the ice cream Seder at the temple but what she did not know was that the new Rabbi did not like the ice cream Seder and Tu Bish Vat was more traditional with fruits and nuts.
Friday was Jay's 50th birthday. I wanted to do something special for him but could not think of what to do. He is not a party person and he is not someone that likes to go out of his birthday because it is Valentine's day and everyone is going out. I decided that I was going to take him out to dinner anyway. I made reservations at a restaurant that he has been wanting to try for years the "Bacon Brothers". I set the GPS and did not tell him where we were going. He was so happy when we got there. The food was very spicy and I did not think that it was very good but we all had fun anyway.
Jay wanted a coconut cake for his birthday. I was going to order one but it was very pricy. Jay gave me a recipe that he wanted me to use and make him the cake. So Saturday when he was out I make the cake. It was a lot more complicated then I thought but it turned out great and even tasted good. I am not a fan of coconut cakes but this was pretty good.
On the 18th CJ go to do some job shadowing. She started her day at my school with Mrs. McDowell seeing what a math teacher does. It was funny that she said that she noticed things like the standards on the board that she did not notice when she was a student in her class. I then took her to the public defender's office so that she could job shadow a lawyer. She really enjoyed that but said that she does not think that her morals could handle defending people you know are bad. She talked and talked about what she had learned about law and the cases that they had that day. Jay would really like her to consider being a lawyer. He thinks that it would be a good career move.
By Thursday the weather had turned bad and by the time we left piano lessons my school had canceled for Friday. CJ's school had not canceled so all the way home I picked on her about the fact that I did not have to go to school but she did. She was so mad at me and was saying that I was so mean. She really hates school this year. By bedtime, CJ's school had canceled as well and she was very happy.
With no school Friday, CJ and I went to the mall to continue to try on Ball dresses before we went to Temple for services. It was not as much fun this time as the first time. She could not find anything that she liked or that fit her right. She got so depressed and just wanted to go. She was upset because she has lost all this weight but the smaller dresses still did not fit her and the bigger dresses were too big. She was also upset that her outfit for choir was too big. I took her to get an outfit that fit her for services and she was much happier. We decided just to order her dress online. We found one similar to the red dress we found before. I was very nervous about ordering online but we had lots of time that if it came in looking bad we still had time to find another dress.
Saturday CJ went to a friend's house for a birthday party. She was worried about the party. One of the girls that were invited is claiming to lesbian and CJ was not comfortable spending the night with her there. She said that it was not spending the night with a boy around. But she got there and it was just fine. She said that her friend was normal not acting like she did at school just trying to show off that she was gay. She said that she was like her old self like when they were friends in elementary school. I was so glad to hear that. I told CJ that sometimes people at school have to show off to try and fit in. While CJ was away Jay and I went on a very nice date night. We want to a restaurant that CJ would not have enjoyed. It was called Poke Bowl and it was like a rice bowl place with all fresh fish and vegetables.
Sunday I picked her up and we sent to Hebrew school and choir practice. I did not what her to miss it because next week she will be missing practice because we were going to go away for the weekend. She got to practice her solo for Shalomfest. It was starting to sound so good.
The week went fast and Friday I left work early so that we could leave as soon as CJ got out of school and leave for my weekend getaway. My birthday weekend was one to remember and was the best 12th birthday. I could not have asked for anything better. Jay booked a bed and breakfast in North Augusta. The place was magical. The owner was very nice. CJ brought her guitar so that she could record her song in a beautiful backdrop. So the owner told her that she would write him a theme song for the inn.
The innkeeper gave us a suggestion for dinner. The restaurant was very busy and it took forever to get our dinner but it was really good and I did not mind the wait. We got to spend time with each other. We then went for ice cream after.
The next morning we had breakfast which was not the typical bed and breakfast. It was just a basic coffee, bagel, and fruit, but it was ok. We then went to the Augusta museum. It was a very nice museum and I did not know what James Brown was from Augusta. I also did not know that the golf masters were played in August.
We then want for a nice short walk by the river and then to lunch at a cute little root beer stand. We did not eat in the car and went in to eat at the corner. Because it was my birthday I even ordered a rootbeer float for myself.
We then went back to the inn and just sat on the front porch. CJ got her guitar and we took some pictures of her. She also practiced her song.
We then went to the mall so that Jay could get me some makeup for my birthday. He wanted to get me some nice makeup. So we went to Sophara and a bunch of other places. I could not decide on want I wanted and got a little overwhelmed with shopping. We then went to dinner. We decided to go downtown August and try a place. The sushi roll was so good but the rest of the dinner was not so good. It was still nice just all of us being together. As we were walking than was a piano and CJ wanted to play it. So we let her go and have fun goofing around with the piano.
It was a fun night as a family. I was not looking forward to going to bed because my birthday weekend would be over when I got up and we would have to head home.
