CJ has been doing great with understanding what she had to do to get better. They are already getting her blood sugar under control and what to start her on the carb insulin ratio. I am learning so much about carbs in food and how to change our diet to help CJ. I think that it will be good for the whole family.
CJ is having to rethink her life and what she wants to be when she grows up. What we have been reading on the internet is that she can not be in the military with Diabetes. She is not sure what she wants to do with her life. I told her that we will do some job shadowing and not worry about it she still has 3 years left of high school to think about what she wants to do. I also told her that we would start looking at different Colleges and that she may have to just go to school in South Carolina so that she can get the life scholarship. She is such a smart girl she can do whatever she wants.
Thursday, CJ's best friend, Millie, was allowed to come over to our house again now that they are starting to let up on the stay at home order. They had fun baking a no sugar low carb cake and watching 80's movies.
On Saturday, as a family, we went to the Jockey Lot. Jay wanted to get me a bike for Mother's day. All of the stores were out of bikes. Jay said that just like toilet paper bikes were another necessity item during the pandemic. We went to 3 different flea Markets before we found a bike. This was one of the first times that we eat out with CJ having to take her insulin in public. We were happy they opened up outside seating in restaurants. This way we did not have to sit in the car and eat our Subway sandwiches. CJ was a little uneasy about testing and giving her shot in public but she did great and found that it was not as hard as she thought it was going to be.
I really enjoyed riding with CJ I just wished that I could do more but it was good to work on building up those muscles. Jay also got me some vegetable plants and a strawberry plant. It was such a nice Mother's Day weekend.
CJ and I worked to try and finish up school. CJ had to take her AP Human Geography test at home. She was so nervous about taking it at home, but we got through it with on problems. She loved having her cats by her side.
After CJ was done with her tests and almost done with school Millie came over to spend the night again. It is starting to get warm so they played in the hose and baked sugar-free cupcakes. They also continued their 80's movie theme. It is so good for CJ to have her friends around.
The following weekend was Memorial Day weekend and we always go camping. CJ was very worried about all the junk food we normally eat during camping. So we got her sugar-free low carb marshmallows. She said that they were pretty good but they did not cook in the open fire they just melted. Everyone told me to just let her eat what she wants and just give her insulin if needed. When we got to the campground we found out that the girls could not go swimming because the swimming hole was closed because of the CORONA virus also the playground was. The girls were so disappointed they had been looking forward to going swimming. That is all CJ was talking about was being able to go swimming. Camping was just not as much fun for the girls. They did get to ride their bikes and play. I rented the movie Cats and they enjoyed getting to watch the musical. On Sunday I got a migraine so bad that I could not shack it. It also started to storm and the power went out 3 times. We decided just to go home early so we finished packing up and went home. Camping has always been so much fun and a great escape but this weekend just was not as much fun.The last week of school CJ did not have any work. I was very busy with students sending in last-minute work and trying to get grades done. The district office kept changing how they wanted us to do grades which were such a pain. Wednesday, we got to return all of CJ's books and pick up her yearbook. We found out that she lettered in academics. I could not have been more proud of her. I also got a minute to talk to the nurse and let her know that CJ was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and when we return to school she was going to need to work with CJ. I also had to rub it in that CJ was in her office so much not just to get out of class this year but because she was really sick.
