April 2020

April continued the crazy weird quarantine life.  More and more restrictions started, the governor announced a stay at home order.  You could only go back if you were an essential employee or needed groceries.  This order was going to go into effect on Tuesday, so over the weekend, we worked on our motorcycles.  Jay's bike had been broken since last spring so CJ was so happy to get it up and running.  She really wanted to go on a motorcycle ride.
We had a wonderful ride and CJ was so happy.
On Monday the 6th-grade teachers at our school planned a teacher parade because we have to social distance the parade would have us in our cars driving around our student's neighborhoods.  I took my bike for the parade and had so much fun waving to the students.  I think all of the teachers had fun.

The rest of Spring break I worked on the diner room.  I had to paint the ceiling twice.  I almost cried having to do it twice but it was ok.  But it really started to come together.  I thought that painting the paneling was going to be a simple task I did not know that it was going to take 3 weeks and be so much work.

Wednesday started Passover.  I had never done a Passover dinner at my house and not just for CJ and I, so I did not do anything.  I felt so guilty not doing anything.  So Thursday Rabbi was doing a Zoom seder. I went to Walmart while CJ was at piano lessons. I was shocked at all the people wearing masks or bandanas over their faces.  It was just so weird.  I made charoset for the first time, got cilantro for our herb, we had horseradish, I boiled an egg, but we did not have a bone, so I used an avocado pit.  We were ready for our seder dinner.
Over the weekend we started to put up the trim in the walls.  The dining room really started to come together.
The rest of the month of April went very quickly which was surprising because we did not do anything.  We decided that when we got our stimulus check we would get the flooring for the dining room because it was going to cost $1000.  Saturday we got up and got the flooring Jay decided to run over to Breakaway Honda and see about getting me a new car.  We looked at the car but they wanted too much for it.  Which I did not understand since the car was only $1000 more then what I paid for my CR-V. So we left and want home telling the guy to call us when he got the payment down.

CJ wanted to make Hallah for Shabbat.  We went to the store and get what she needed.  I walked her through but she did all the work.  We let it rise to long but it turned out great.

By Wednesday, the car dealership called and asked us to come back.  On Friday we went to the dealership and came home with my new car.  Jay calls her Christen because she has so many bells and whistles that it is like she can drive herself.
Saturday and Sunday we spent the whole day working on putting in the new floor so we did not have much time to take the new car out.  The new floor looked amazing.  I am so excited to almost have the dining room done.

Monday I was on a video conference and CJ said, "Mom there is a strange truck driving around our house over and over.  It is freaking me out."  I told her I would check it out in a minute.  It made me nervous as well.  When I was done with my conference I looked at my phone and found out that my principal was driving around and putting signs in all the teaches yards to let them know he appreciated us.  I guess the fact that my house does not show up on GPS made his surprise a little harder.

On Tuesday,  I was starting to get worried about CJ.  She has been losing a lot of hair and weight, then she told me that she had not had her period for 2 months.  I thought with the quarantine her body was stressed.  So I called the pediatrician.   They told me not to wait and bring her in.  They asked me a million questions and the next thing that I know we are on our way to Greenville hospital because it looked like she had diabetes.  She was admitted to the hospital.   Because of the Covid-19, Jay could not be with us at the hospital.  Only one parent could be with the patient.  This was so bad because Jay was left out of all the information and decisions. He was at home not knowing what was going on.  They had to admit CJ to ICU because the intermediate unit was closed due to not enough patients and CJ needed constant care at first. I was not allowed to leave the hospital or the floor.  I did not have a change of clothes or anything so for 2 days while we were there I was in the same clothes. This was the most stressful time.  It was so hard to see them come in and poke CJ every 2 hours and hear her cries because the IV hurt so bad.  I just wanted to take her home but I know that she needed to get better first.  We were not able to pack anything before going to the hospital but while we were still in the ER they let Jay bring me a bag.  He packed our computers and CJ's pajamas.  He thought he would be able to come back so he did not pack other clothes.  The first night in the hospital CJ wanted one of her stuffed animals.  She may be 14 but there are times that she still wants her toys.  The nurse brought her a stuffed animal for her to keep.  She was so happy to have to confront.

After 2 days in the hospital and CJ doing great with giving herself shots, we got to go home.  We are learning so much and it has been so scary. She has Type 1 diabetes they think.  It may be type 2 but more than likely not because children do not normally get type 2.  They did some tests that we will get back in a couple of weeks to say for sure.  We have so many doctor's appointments coming and so much to learn in the next couple of weeks.
