February 2021

CJ started her practice for the play.  She does not get back from practice until almost 6:00 each evening, but she is loving it.  She has been so happy being part of this play.  She says she needs to practice her dance because she is having trouble with that.  We bought her skates so that she can practice that.  By Friday I realized how much my baby girl had grown up.  She told me that she has a crush on a boy that is in the play with her.  I asked if he liked her too but she was not sure.  She said that he talked to her and gave her his phone number but she said that he flirts with everyone.  I told her dad about it.  I told him not to say anything to CJ yet but that I will try to bring it up.  He told me that I better break the ice soon because he can not hold that one in.  It is so hard to think of CJ liking a boy but she is in high school and of that age. I am just glad that the boy is in the Hornor classes which means that he is smart.

On Saturday CJ got to vo
lunteer at the museum.  She said that it was busier than it normally was and she was excited because someone asked her questions that she got to answer.  She says normally people do not talk to her or ask her questions. The question was about why there were pictures of the American girl dolls around the museum.  She liked giving the answer because it was about her favorite part of the museum and why she is involved with the museum.

After her volunteering was over she got to go over to a new friend's house. Abi is a type 1 diabetic that we met.  She invited CJ over to her house to spend the night.  They stayed up late and had fun. It snowed that night so they went out and played a little in the snow. The next morning CJ woke up earlier than everyone else and wanted to go home because she was overtired.  I came to get her early so that she could shower and change because we went to the T' Bu Shavat services at the temple.

We went to Mrs. Margy's for lunch.  It is so sad that she will be moving soon and we will not get to see her.  I love that CJ calls her, her Bobe. We are going to try and get over there again this month before she moves. We then went to the temple and the kids had built a little snowman out of the little bit of snow that was left.  We planted parsley that should be ready for Passover.  It was nice being at the temple but we did not stay long because it was so cold and we were outside the whole time.

Wednesday I took that day off work because CJ had a doctor's appointment.  The day was very stressful.  It started with CJ lying to us about cleaning the little box.  Her dad was so mad that she lied to us over something so simple and I was upset that I defended her over it.  I told Jay that if she said that she did it,  she did it.  Jay was then upset and told her to give him her phone to see what else she was lying about.  On her phone, we saw that she was getting up at night and going downstairs to text this boy that she liked and a boy we told her not to text because he was her friend's boyfriend.    The texts were not bad but the sneaking around was bad.  CJ knows she was in trouble and while she was at school made herself sick with worry over what we were going to say and do.  When I picked her up we had a very long talk about lying and sneaking around.  We were not upset over her texting this boy but that we were upset that she was going up at night and using the phone when she was not to.  Also that she was lying and in the text, she was telling her friends that she yells at her and she was in her room hiding from us.  I was upset that she was making us out to be the bad guys when we very rarely have to discipline her at all.  She said that she just wanted to feel like a normal teen.  I told her that a normal teen does not need to lie or sneak around.

We decided to take her phone away from her for 2 weeks.  She understood and was ok with that.  We told her that she still could go skating with her friends over the weekend and we were not going to take her out of the play.  I told her that she needed to learn that creating drama was drama was not there was not a good thing and that she needed to learn that that kind of attention was not the kind that she wanted.  She had a good life and she should be happy and share that with others.

Her endocrinologist appointment went well.  She is doing great with her managing her diabetes.  Her A1c looks great.  I little up from the last time but still in the normal range.  We talked about the fact that we still have not heard about the pump.  CJ's doctor told us that if we do not hear from the company in 2 weeks call the office because we ready want to get this started.

On Saturday, Garrett came down to have lunch with Jay for his birthday.  CJ was more interested in getting ready to go skating with her Friends which included the boy that she liked.  To us, it looked more like a double date.  It was her friend Chanassey, her boyfriend Ryan, the boy CJ liked CL and CJ. I took CJ skating.  Garrett and Megan keep giving Jay and me a hard time about how much CJ is growing up and how we could all go skating and embarrass her.  While CJ was skating she called us and asked if she could go to dinner with everyone.  Jay was freaking out because this made it a real date with dinner.  The place that they were going to was a very fancy restaurant.  Jay and I go there for date night because it is such a nice fancy place.  Jay said that his blood pressure was going through the roof, but he let her go.  He said that it was being a normal teen to like a boy and try to get a boyfriend so he did not what to do anything that stopped that but he was still a dad and was freaked out by this.

Jay's birthday was on Sunday.  This year we did not take him out to dinner he wanted Steak, sweet potato, and coleslaw.  We had a very nice quiet birthday at home.  Jay did his thrift sale shopping and we just hung out at the house.  In the evening we gave him his gift which was this thing for this grill that he really wanted and a coconut cake.

On Wednesday Jay decided that CJ was taking her being grounded from her phone very well and thought that we needed to reduce her punishment time.  CJ was glad that she had her phone taken because during the time it was gone Chanassey and Ryan break up and there was some drama at school with that.  Especially because Chanassey had a new boyfriend by that next day.  I told CJ that teen drama can be weird when you are friends with a couple that breaks up. This year  CJ is learning lots of teen lessons.

Sunday we went to have lunch with Ms. Margy again to say our last goodbye to her.  We hope that we will be able to see her again but we just do not know.  I will hate going to the temple and not having to help her find the pages in the prayer book or listening to her aw and oh over CJ's singing.  I will miss lunches at her house listening to what life was like growing up in the 1930s and '40s in New York for her.  She is such a great lady.
February just flew by.  I had an interview for an assistant principal's job but did not get it.  I was so sad I really what the job but Jay reminded me that the school was not a good school and has a very high turnover rate for assistant principals so this job may have been more of a headache than a blessing.  I was still sad because this was the first time that I was even able to get an interview for an AP job.  I really think that would be a great job for me, but I know that that may never happen. So it is very depressing.  CJ was feeling depressed over many things but she would not talk about it.  She did write a poem but still would not talk to Jay and me about it.  I worry that she is not talking to us much.

The week before my not really birthday, birthday.  My friend Beth put up a happy birthday sign in my classroom.  I had so much fun explaining to my students that I really did not have a birthday this year.  They so did not get it.  Only one of my students got it because the 29th of February is also his birthday.  So we had fun all week talking about our crazy birthday.  It was really nice to bond with this student.
On Saturday CJ had to take her class for driving school.  She will now have 3 2 2-hour driving sessions and at the end of the last session, she will get her driving test.  I can not believe that she is almost driving.  I was thinking this morning how nice it will be that she can drive to the museum herself and I will not have to worry about taking her and picking her up.

Jay and I took her to class and then Jay took me to breakfast for my birthday.  We went to the IHOP.  It has been years since I had been to the IHOP so it was so much fun.  Jay then told me that he wanted to take me to get new boots for my birthday, but the shops did not open for a couple of hours.  We went grocery shopping and then back home to drop the grocery off.  We then went back to Anderson and I was able to find new books right away with no problems.  Jay then got me a new Jean jacket as well.  We then picked up CJ and come home. We then went to dinner and home for Cake.  Jay made me a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting.  It was so good. He even put 12 1/4 candles on the cake which just made me laugh.   I could not have asked for a better day.

Sunday we got up and Jay and I went to donate blood.  This was the first time that we did not have any problems with donating.  My blood pressure was fine and they only have a little problem finding my vein.  After we came home, CJ and I started making Hamantatan.  All of a sudden I felt sick and started to sweat.  I was so weak,  I thought I was going to be sick but I did not and went to lay on the couch.  Jay brought me a soda thinking that my blood sugar must have dropped from giving blood.  I laid there the rest of the day until it was time to go to dinner.  Jay had me open more presents.  I was so spoiled.  He got me a bra bag which was funny because he asked one day what I wanted when I was doing laundry and untangling bras. He also got me some Origins face moisturizers and cleaners which I love. We were going to go for Vietnamese but when we got there the sign on the door said sorry we had to close early today.  I was so disappointed but we found a Poke bowl place and had that instead, which worked out great fine we all had a very nice meal
