November 2022

The first week of November was crazy.  Teaching the day after Halloween is always crazy but Morgan my aide was out with sick children.  So we were so overwhelmed at work.  CJ was trying to finish her NHS scholarship application which was very long, working, and trying to get ready for All-State auditions.  On Wednesday,  for the first time that I can even remember in my teaching career, I was hit by a student.  It was on the arm and I was not really hurt just had a red mark for a bit.  I could not believe that I was hit.  I thought that by going to Elementary school I would be safe from being hit. That was always my fear teaching Middle School.  It all came about because the child did not earn his points and my aide that takes him to review his points was not there because she went home because her kids were sick.   It was a week to count down to Fall break.

On Friday, CJ came home from work and picked up Emma for our camping trip.  She told Jay and me to sit down she had something to tell us.  She made such a big deal over it, I thought something was really wrong, but then she told us that she got an email stating that she got into Honor's College at Lander.  We were so happy and excited for her.
In the morning we got up and drove to the beach for fall break. It was a weird trip but wonderful as always.  On our way there they had built a Buc-ees gas station so we decided to check out what all the hype was about.  Everyone talks about how much they love going to Buc-ees.  It was a big place and so many people that you could not see anything.  We were all overwhelmed and decided that Buc-ees was not our speed.  We did get lunch there and were surprised that they did not have anywhere to sit and eat so we had to eat in the truck.  Jay was upset about how expensive it was. $12 for just a sandwich.  For just sandwiches for the 4 of us and Jay and I slip one it was over $40.  We did not even get drinks or sides.  We did get a picture to prove that we had been there.

For us to stay there all 3 days we had to get one campsite for one night and then a different one for the next 2 nights.  The lady at the counter stated that she could move us to one site but would have to charge us another $40.  We were not going to spend the extra money so we just moved into one site. The site that we were going to move to the next day was open all night.  No one was at the stop so she could have let us just stay at the stop.  I was a little upset that she had to make our stay not so convenient when she had the chance without charging us.

This was Emma's first time going to Hunting Beach so CJ took her everywhere on the bike.  Jay and I just rested around the campsite and went down to the beach.  Jay had been having some trouble with his feet so he got in the water to try and see if the salt water would heal.  The weather was warmer than it has ever been at Hunting Beach.  All of us did not pack correctly.  I packed sweaters and CJ did as well.  But it was ok we were so happy that it was so nice.  Because it was so warm we spent a long time at the beach. Jay did not go fishing through which was very surprising.

CJ told us after going to the nature center that the marsh walk had been destroyed during Hurricane Ian last month.  Jay and I released that is the reality if we decided to move to the beach for retirement. On Monday we took the girls to Broadway at the Beach and to the outlet mall to shop.  Jay and I went shopping as well and I got some new shoes.  We then took the girls to dinner at Friendly's as a tradition.

That night there was a full moon so when we got back I ran to the beach to watch the sunset and see the full moon over the ocean. I could not get a good picture showing how beautiful it was.

Monday night CJ got sick and started throwing up.  So in the morning we got up and went home. We had to vote anyway so it was good that we got going.  CJ ended up getting another cold when we got home.  She was very worried because Wednesday she was going to the All-State tryouts.  She stated that she thinks that she did ok on the audition.  Even though this was a short week at work it was a very busy week.

Thursday CJ came home and told us that she received her first scholarship.  The scholarship that she fill out last month that Mr. Scruggs told her about, she received.  They presented her with the letter and check at school and she had to take pictures with the principal.
On Friday,  I was having a lot of problems at work with some other staff members.  I was so frustrated and agreed that she was not wanting to work with me and my students.  But it was all better when CJ got home and we decide as a family just to stay home and relax.  CJ also had more news for us.  She told us that Mr. Fricks had called her while she was at work.  She called him back after work and he told her that she had gotten into All-State.  She had the highest sight reading score which was what CJ was the most worried about. She was competing with 509 other students in the state to get in so she was so happy that she got in.  She said that the alto was the most competitive there were not as many sopranos that tried out.  this is the picture the school took.
This week went by fast. It was a busy week at work and I did everything I could to keep my head above water.  CJ was the same.  She had a half day on Wednesday and her CNA teacher decided that because all the Palmetto kids would not be there that she would give a test.  CJ said that she had to retake the test on Friday but the teacher put a 0 in the grade book.  She was upset by that so in good CJ style, she just went in on Friday and got a 100% on the test.  She said that the class average was in the 60's and that on Wednesday some of the kids taking the test got caught cheating.  CJ said that she was glad that she was not there for that and will deal with a 0 in the grade book for a short time.

On Friday we went to the temple because CJ was singing in the choir. She did beautifully as always and it is fun watching the new little girls in the choir looking up to CJ.  The services were nice as well.  Rabbi's sermon was not very long which was different.  I think that he was not sure what to say about the Torah passage this week.

Saturday, CJ had to volunteer at the museum for American Girl.  She said that they had a good turnout this time and a lot of fun.  That night we got all dressed up and went to dinner and the first of the plays from CJ's birthday gift.  We went to see "Fiddle on The Roof".  Before the play, we found a place to have dinner.  I found out that my friend Beth was at the 2:00 show so she meet us for dinner.  It was a good dinner and the play was nice.  Pricey but nice.  The play was wonderful. I felt bad because the tickets that I could afford were at the very top of the theater and I was afraid that CJ was disappointed with our seats, but she was not she said that she loved them because she could see the whole stage from so high up.  She is just so sweet. This was the latest I had stayed up for a long time.  We did not get home until midnight.  Poor CJ was so tired when we left. I was just so full of great memories of having such a wonderful time with my daughter that I was not as tired as I thought I would be.

Sunday CJ had Hebrew school.  She is enjoying making lesson plans and enjoying that the students are having fun.  She had the kids write Thank You letters but had to use some Hebrew statements in their letters.  The kids enjoyed it and the teachers loved getting the letters.  CJ then had choir practice.  It is so weird that I do not go with her and she drives to Greenville on her own.

Jay and I looked at the kitchen and started the demo on the countertops.  Going a week without countertops was a little much.  It was a lot of going out to dinner. We only had 2 days of school so it was not bad.  We decided to go to Subway for dinner Monday night.  Jay asked the high school student for a 12-inch sub, and the boy asked Jay if that was a 6-inch or a foot long that he wanted.   I just laughed.

Wednesday I had the day off but Jay and CJ had to work.  I went and spend the morning with my friend Beth.  She helped me go Christmas shopping for Jay and then we went to lunch.  Thursday we worked all morning on the kitchen.  Jay smoked a turkey breast. CJ and I could not do much to help Jay because he was working on the plumbing lines and we could not help with that.  At 4:00 we went over to my friend Lori's house for Thanksgiving dinner.  We had a nice time just relaxing and eating too much.

On Friday CJ woke up not feeling good and had a slight fever.  Since I was going to be leaving on Monday I did not what her to get sick before I left so I took her to urgent care while Jay worked on the kitchen.  It was good that CJ and I were away because Jay was very stressed out over cutting the countertops.  CJ was fine.  She did not have COVID, strep, or the flu just a bad cold.  So I put her on the couch and had her rest.  I helped Jay and I could but could not do much.  CJ and I watched TV together and I just tried to be around to help Jay if he needed it.  Saturday we got the counters done and the sink in.  I got to help with the Sink and it was nice to help.

By Sunday we had everything almost done.  The backsplash was not in and the dishwasher still needed to be anchored in.  But we were happy to have the kitchen back and a dishwasher.  I had to spend part of the day cleaning and packing for my conference.  CJ spent the day decorating for the holidays.  We all love the new kitchen and did not release that we had so much counter space.

Monday I did not go to work because I was leaving for Minnesota for a conference.  Lindsay and I went to breakfast that morning and then to the airport.  We had a very smooth trip to Minnesota and had no problems it was fun to spend the day with Lindsay.  The only problem we had was at the hotel when they did not have the school credit card or our names on the room.  But we were able to get it all worked out and get checked in with on problems.  When I called home to talk to Jay and CJ.  CJ told me that she had a good but busy day.  Then she told Jay and me to sit down and told us that a boy in her nursing class asked her out.  She told him, yes and they were going to plan a date. Jay was happy about it because he thinks that she is behind with dating.  I just hope that he is nice and does not distract her from her studies.  After Lindsay and I talked to our families we went to dinner.  I was blown away by the price of everything.  It was a simple dinner that we went to and for chicken nuggets, it was $19.99 that was without fries. The chicken nuggets were not very good they were so salty I could not eat them.

The next day it started to snow and was snowing all day.  Those of us from Southern states were excited to see the snow but those that were from Minnesota and Wisconsin were not.  I kept taking pictures all day and sending them to CJ.  She wanted me to send some of the snow her way. At the conference, there were people from Eau Claire.  One girl went to the same college that I did and grow up in Eau Claire.  It was fun to ask her if she went to North or Memorial high school and her know what I was saying.  There was a group of ladies that were administrators for Altoona school district when I was a kid that was part of Eau Claires school district.  I told them that I lived in the Villa Diane trail park as a kid and went to McKinley Elementry which is now the Alternative school.  It was fun to share memories so weird to be back up north.

After the conference, Lindsay and I called out families.  CJ was still at her tryouts for the play, so I talked to Jay most of the time.  When CJ got home I talked to her and she told me that she nail the tryouts.  She thought that she did great and the choreographer was very impressed with her singing.  She so hoped that she would get Donna.  Lindsay and I then went to dinner.  We were going to try and find a store where we could buy some souvenirs for the girls. We did not want to walk outside in the cold so we attempted to use the skyways.  It was very confusing and we keep having to stop and reorient ourselves to which way to go next. Lindsay said that if we were in the South someone would stop to ask us if we needed help.  No one even looked at us as where looked lost.  Finely this lady asked if we needed help.  She was walking home in the skyway and told us of some places to eat and how to get there.  She even walked with us for a bit so that we made it there.  See not all Northerners were unfriendly.  The one restaurant that she gave us was closed but lucky the other one was right next door.  We had a very nice dinner and it was not as expensive.  We then tried to find a Target but it had closed at 6:00.  We did not want to try and brave the Skyway again and it was only a .5-mile walk outside to our hotel so we braved the cold and walked outside.  I am glad that we did because it was some beautiful winter sights.  We had fun with the snow and laughed about how cold we were.

That night  I know that I had eaten something that did not agree with my system.  I was so sick and then on top of it, I got a migraine that cause me to get sick.  By 3 in the morning, I was a mess and had taken so much medication I was surprised that I was still not sleeping.  The conference the next day was so good.  I was sad that my tummy was still not right and I was tired.  But because it was good I was able to stay awake.

CJ's had problems that day too.  Her arm had gotten infected from her pump site and was all swollen. I could not do anything because I was away so Jay tried to get some of the infection out by squishing it.  He said that he got a lot of infection out but it was still red. When I got home I tried to call the doctor to see what I needed to do.  They did not respond until late so there was not much we could do.

Lindsay and I had to leave the conference a little early to get to the airport. I was so weird that we would have a delay and not be able to get home.  We were able to get through security with no problems and had time to stop and get something to eat. Our flight was on time and we had no problems. I looked on Facebook and saw that CJ got a call back for Donna and Tanya.  She was very happy but she did not know Tanya's music.

On the way home on our last flight home, I started to get another migraine so I was so glad that we would have the next day off from school.
