December started out with a nice relaxing day at home, doing laundry from my trip and picking up. I sat around trying to get rid of the headache and just rested. It was a nice start to the month. CJ had her call back auditions. She know the music and even was ready with props to show her acting. The rehearsal went long but she came home feeling good about it.
The next day we all had to go back to work and school. CJ had made a date with his boy that asked her out. After her class on Saturday, they are going to go bowling in Easley. While CJ was at school she found out that she did not get the role of Donna in the school play but of Tanya. She was a little disappointed but said that it was ok because it was her senior year and with not having the lead she would have more time for other things. She also said that she was going to knock her part out of the water and be the best Tanya that they have ever seen. She said that the girl that got Donna did not do as well on her audition but that she was Mr. Long's favorite and that it was Mr. Long's play and he could pick whoever he wanted to play whoever he wanted. She was just glad that she got a part and would really enjoy being Tanya because she was the sassy aunt. She also said that she has good chemistry with the other girl that got Rosie and they will have fun together. I just loved her attitude about that role she got. She is such a good kid.
Friday we took CJ to her motorcycle class. The instructors thought that it was so neat to have a 17-year-old girl in the class and her parents had gotten her a motorcycle. Jay and I walked around the store looking at bikes and new helmets then we went to dinner while CJ finished the first day of class. She said that she enjoyed the class, but it was nothing new that she had not already learned from us and the e-learning class that she had to take before the class started. Like always she was at the start of the class because she could answer all the instructor's questions. She loves being the teacher's pet even in a motorcycle safety class.
Saturday she got up early and went to her class. She had to be there by 7:45. I slept in that morning and woke up just in time to see her out the door. I was worried about her all day. It was raining and cold. She told me that she would text during her breaks but never did. I would later find out that she was texting the boy that she was going out with during her breaks and ran out of time to text us. It is hard being second and having to give up a little. She has been my whole life for so long.
She got done with the class a little early and called to say that she was going to Walmart to get new dry clothes before her date. I told her just to come home and put clean dry clothes on. She said that she really needed new jeans. So I told her just to do what she needed to do. She came home and got changed. She is so funny sometimes. At 5:00 she left to meet this Conner at the bowling alley. She got there and the bowling alley was closed. She was good enough to text me and let me know that it was closed and that they were going to go to dinner at the Mexican place. She then texted me a little while later to tell me that they were going to go walk around downtown Easley. I watched her on Life 360 and they walked downtown Easley for about 2 hours. She then came home getting home right before her 10:00 curfew. She said that she was too tired to talk and just wanted to go to bed. I was not sure what to think about that. She did not seem excited about her first date.
Sunday, CJ got up and went to her last day of class. That morning she told me that Conner was socially awkward. I said, "So are you." I asked if they were going to go out again and she said that she did not know. I asked if he tried to kiss her at the end of their date and she told me no. I did not get much out of that conversation either. It is so weird that she is not talking to me. She always goes on and on about things. Later when her dad asked her about the date and said that from want he heard from me that it was not that great and they may not go out again. She told him that was not true and that it went well and they may go out again. So weird, I can not figure this dating thing out with her.
I again never heard from her all day. When she got home we went to my friend Beth's house so that her daughter could alter CJ's dress for us. Beth could not get much out of CJ as well about the date. It was so cute watching Kylie fixing her dress and us all having to run after her son to keep him away from the pins.
The next week CJ would spend the whole week texting Conner every day. They planned another date to go roller skating during winter break, but he wanted to see her sooner. So they planned a date to go walk around downtown Greenville after her Choir practice on Sunday. So the Choir was going to meet this boy before I do.
Jay on Wednesday was so itchy from his rash that he finally decided to take the day off work and go to the doctor. After running some tests they were not sure what was wrong with him. So they gave him some medication and told him to go home and wait for some of the blood work to come back. Some of the blood work came back positive but it was so weird that they were not sure if it was a false positive so he will have to go back for more tests. He just wants to know what is going on with him. All the tests that they did on Saturday turned out to be negative and we still do not know what is going on with Jay.
Saturday, I did CJ's hair and we went to Millie's so they could go to the Military Ball. I reminded CJ to be present with her friends that she should not text Conner while she is having fun with her friends and that if he does not understand then he is not the right boy to be with. The girls went to Sullivan's restaurant for dinner. Sullivan's is the fanciest restaurant in Anderson and the most expensive. The Lister's paid for the whole meal which CJ could not get over the price. That is all that she could talk about when she got home. The girls had a great time and CJ said that they got home by 12:30. She had fun teaching everyone dances that she had learned at camp. The girls looked so beautiful and I was so glad that they had a good time.
Jay and I want out to dinner with Elinor and Sean. It was the next dinner with friends like always. Jay wanted to go right home after dinner. CJ stayed the night with Millie so we did not have to worry about her. She had forgotten her music books at home so I told her that I would meet her at Greenfield for breakfast and give her her music books. We had a very nice breakfast together.
CJ said that Choir practice got done early, so none of the choir members got to meet Conner. He came and picked her up at the Temple and they went downtown Greenville and walked around Falls park for hours. She said that he was so sweet he asked permission to hold her hand and put his arm around her when they were swinging. CJ said that she was going to try and be home by 6:00. I texted her to see if she was going to be home for dinner. She never answered my text. At 5:30 I looked at Life 360 to see where she was and if she was on the way home. I saw that she was in Taylors heading to Spartanburg. I got very nervous because this was the wrong direction from home and not an area that I gave her permission to be in. I called her phone and she sounded like she was having a good time with Connor. I asked her why they were in Taylors and she said that they were trying to find food. I reminded her that she said she was going to be home at 6:00. She told me that she had forgotten that she had said that and that she would head back to the Temple and be on her way home. I felt bad about being a strict home but when she did not answer me and was in an area that she did not say she was going to it scared me. She came home and we had a long talk about always letting people know where she is and that does not let boys make her lose her trust and common sense. I did not discipline her for it because she is getting too old for that. I just needed to talk to her about her behavior. This boy thing is really scary.
During the week there was so much going on at school. We had spirit week and it was the last week before break. CJ and I have so much fun dressing in Hanukkah shirts while everyone else does Christmas. But we were glad when the week was over.
Friday was a half day at school for me but CJ was going to skip her afternoon class and meet me. Her career center teacher stated that they did not have to come because some of the other schools had half days only Anderson 1 did not. CJ brought me lunch and then we went to the DMV to make it official that she had her motorcycle license. She said that it felt like she was always at the DMV these days but that this was the last time for a while. She was so happy to have her motorcycle license now we just have to wait for the weather to warm up so that she could ride. We then went to On the Grid for coffee to celebrate her getting her license. We were laughing because today was pajama day at school so we both were going to the DMV then for coffee in our pajamas.
That evening CJ was asked to help with services. It is so nice to see CJ on the bimah. She loves to sing and play for everyone. She was supposed to meet TM at 6:00 to practice and go over the music. We got stuck in traffic on Highway 85. It took us over 2 hours to get to the temple. It took us almost an hour and a half to just get off the highway so that we could find a different route. By the time that we got there, she only had a few minutes to review her music and we never did get to dinner. She did enjoy being able to do camp music and singing the prays.
On Saturday CJ volunteered at the museum for the American Girl Christmas Tea party. CJ said that she had to really work with all the new volunteers because they were not sure what to do. She then volunteered at the front desk. She said that it was very busy and she enjoyed seeing so many people at the museum.
She came home and we took her to the Peace center. The Temple Choir was singing in the lobby before the show. I wish that they had microphones because as all the people started to come it at the time was hard to hear them really loud. I loved seeing her perform. It was fun to say that she was performing at the Peace Center. It was nice having Jay with us. Everyone from the Choir was surprised to see him. One of the other choir moms, Charma, had never seen my husband in all the years she has been going to religious school with us. She husband who is on the temple board was asking me what does Jay like to do so that we can get him involved with the temple. I told him that was not going to happen, but he does like to metal detect. Ben, then said that we will have to do something with the man and go metal detecting. It was so cute how they wanted to include Jay. After CJ's performance we went out to dinner just the 3 of us.
Sunday we got up and did not do a lot in the morning. It was the first night of Hannukkah and CJ and I were going to go downtown for Hannukkah on Main. I told CJ that she could invite Connor to come with us. I still hate that she is not really talking to me and has been so quiet. When we got to Hannukkah on Main it was early so we looked at the Christmas trees in the lobby of the Hyatt. Conner meet us there he did not say much to me and was very quiet. I just tried to leave them alone because he looked so nervous. I helped with set up for the event and tried to find someone to talk to. CJ said that she did not like the way that I just stood there over them. I was just trying to find somewhere to go to get away from them and to have someone to talk to. I was not very fun because I did not see anyone I know. I should have just stayed and helped serve. I would have had more fun. After CJ and Conner left to watch the BMX bike trick show I sat down and started talking to the people behind us. They were from Williamston and the older lady went to school at Palmetto High like 40 years ago. She said back then there were 2 teachers that were Jewish and she did not have any problems with anti-Semitism. I thought that was so neat. After the event, we left and I asked if they wanted to catch a bit to eat. CJ said no so we just left. I was not too impressed with Conner and am not sure what to think. He just held CJ's hand the whole time and was quiet. Not much to go on. I will pretend that I really like him to make CJ happy until I get a better idea of who he is. He did walk us to the car and then leave to go back to his car.
On Monday Jay had to go to work so CJ and I worked on cleaning the house and just lay around watching TV. It was a nice day, but CJ is still spending more time on her phone than us talking and goofing around. For Hannukah she got me some wonderful hair products to try and fix my hair from falling out so much.
Tuesday we had CJ's endocrinology appointment. Since Harly is on maternity leave we got to see the new doctor in the office. Before we went to the appointment we went to lunch at Greenfield and then shopping at Costco. It was so cold outside I was not worried about our cold stuff sitting in the car during our appointment. The appointment went great. I really liked the new endo. He was a type 1 diabetic too and gave us lots of tricks to help CJ. There were happy to see that CJ had lost a little weight. She had lost about 20 pounds since our last visit but it was not because she was in DKA and her blood sugar was so high she was losing weight. Her A1c was down and her sugars were looking great. Her doctor also talks to her realistically about college and managing her diabetes. I talk to him about her starting with boys and he said that it was ok to put her on birth control because he all knows teens. That night I made latkes and sausage for dinner and we lit the candles for another night. When CJ and I were at Costco we saw these little blenders that we both wanted so we wrapped them and gave them to each other as gifts. I did get a second gift from Jay. He had gotten me new slippers. He told me that is why he was upset then I had come home with slippers from one of my co-workers.
Wednesday CJ had a day filled with going out with Conner. They were going to go skating and then in the evening go to dinner and see the Christmas lights in Williamston. CJ told me that he wanted to take her to O'Charlies in Spartanburg. I had to put my foot down and tell her no. They were not going to drive an hour away to go to dinner when there was an O'Charlies in Simpsonville and Anderson which were just 30 minutes away. I told her that they should just stay local and go to Raine's On Main. She got a little upset with me for telling her no and trying to find another option for them. She said that she got it and did not want to keep on. I was just trying to find other options if he really wanted to take her to on O'Charlies. We just stopped talking to each other. I am really starting to hate this boy thing. I left to do lunch with Beth and CJ left to go skating. I thought lunch with Beth would be a nice break but all of her kids were there and she was playing and worrying about her grandson more than talking, so I just talked to her children. She did tell me about all the trouble with husbands that her girls were having which did not help my mood with this boy thing that CJ is starting. CJ texted me to let me ask me if she could go to White Rabbit with Conner after skating. I did not get the text because I was driving. When I got home and responded to the text I saw that she was already at the White Rabbit with Conner. I could not be too upset because I would have said yes that she could go and I was glad that she texted. I just have to remember that she is growing up and I have to let her go. It is just super hard for me.
CJ came home and took a shower then got ready for the big date. We did our Hannukkah stuff. We gave her her new phone so that she could work on setting it up before we left for the beach. Jay gave me my big gift as well. It was a new Ereader. I was so happy because mine is dying and at times I had to go to sleep at night without reading my book. I love having my book to read at night.
Conner came over around 6:00 to pick her up for dinner. They agree to go to Raines in Williamston. Jay had him come in and sit down. I told him that I was not comfortable with going to Spartenburg for dinner. He told me that no he was going to take her to Simpsonville. That was a big difference. I said I was just trying to find a place close so that they did not have to drive since gas is so expensive. He thought that was a great idea. He just did not know of anywhere nice in Williamston because he was from Powersville. He was very good about answering all of Jay's questions and impressed Jay by bringing CJ flowers. They left for their date and Jay and I ordered a pizza and wanted TV. I stayed up to make sure that she got home safe and at her curfew which was 10:00.
CJ got home with 5 minutes to spare on her curfew. I told myself that I would not ask any questions about how her night went or even talk to her. When she came in the door she put her stuff down and crawled on the couch with me under the blankets. She then asked what I was watching on TV and if I would shut it off. She then told me about her night. She said that they had a nice dinner and she got the chicken wrap because it was the cheapest on the menu but it was good. I was proud of her for doing that. I have tried to teach her that if you are paying you to get want ever you want but if someone else is paying try and find the least expensive thing that sounds good. She then told me that they walked the park and town hall. In the park, he asked her to be his girlfriend officially. She thought it was so sweet the way that he did it. under the bridge at the park. She said that when they were in the town hall there was music playing and he asked her to dance. It was so nice that she was just telling me about her date and I did not have to ask about it. She then told me that when he dropped her off he walked her to the door and kissed her for the first time. It was her first kiss. I told her that was so romantic like in the movies the way your first kiss is supposed to be. On the porch, after he drops you off for the night. I was so glad that she was finely starting to talk to me again. It has been so quiet around the house.
Thursday we got up and started packing and putting things in the camper to leave for our trip. Kelly came over and we went to lunch. We had a nice time at lunch with Kelly and Chaunnecy. When we got back from lunch we sat around the house talking and the little neighbor girl came over to see CJ. It was fun to see CJ laugh and goof around. We gave CJ her inversion chair so that she would have it for camping but I think that it is going to be too cold for her to use it camping this weekend.
Friday we got up and finished packing up the last things to put in the camper. We then drove to Huntington Beach. When we got there it was cold so we quickly got the camper set up and decided to do our shopping and go to Friendly's for lunch/dinner. CJ was back to talking to us and telling us all kinds of silly things. I really enjoyed that she was not quiet and moppy. I could not believe that we got everything that we needed to get done. We decided to just stay at the campground for the weekend because it was so cold out. We were going to try and walk on the beach but it may have to be in the middle of the day because it was so cold. It had never been this cold before when we went camping. Normally just the little heater can keep the camper warm but not this time. We had to turn on the propane furnace. It was not going to get above freezing the whole time we were here. We had to use the electric Menorah because I did not what to get candle wax in the camper. Besides I got this fun Menorah at Bintime with Beth for $0.75.
Saturday, we stayed in the camper most of the day. It was 18 degrees out and only got up to 32 degrees. It was cold. A lot of our friends back in Anderson lost power from the cold. We were toasty in the camper. CJ had had enough of just sitting around the camper with no internet that was working well and no TV that was working well. So she went for a bike ride in the cold. She said that her tires were low and she had to push the bike most of the way. She was so cold when she got back so I made her some hot chocolate. She took some beautiful pictures while she was out with her new cameras on her phone. One of them with her bike was amazing. In the afternoon when it was a little warmer I had to walk to the beach. I could not come all this way and not see the beach. Jay said that the waves were perfect for fishing but it was too cold for fishing because the fish would be in deeper water. The sand was nothing like I had seen it before. It was dark up by the bank and packed all the way up. It was very easy to walk on and had lots of sea shells. Not one person was around it was so quiet and beautiful. I could have spent the whole day out there if it would not have been so cold. We had fresh fish and shrimp for dinner then sat around watching movies.
Sunday was Christmas morning. When you have an older child and you also celebrate Hanukkah it seems that the excitement of Christmas morning is not really there. We all got up had coffee and Jay and CJ opened presents. CJ had so much fun giving her dad the presents she bought. I love that she goes not and gets them on her own with her money. It just makes everything so much more special. During the day CJ sent for several bike rides. I went for one walk on the beach and got some schoolwork completed. Jay finally got to go metal detecting on the beach. He said that he did not get skunked because he found some coins and an earring. He found out when he come back to the camper that the earring was real silver. He was so happy. He was hoping for a ring but he was ok with what he found. We had dutch oven chicken for dinner one of CJ's favorites and kind of a tradition camping to have dutch over chicken for Christmas. It was just a nice day. In the evening we lit the last candle for Hanukkah and CJ gave me this neckless that said mother, daughter, friends. I just loved it. It so meant the world to me.
Monday we packed up the camper and headed home. We did not stop to have lunch on the road because we had had a big breakfast. So we just sneaked and kept going. I love camping but it is always nice to get home and take a nice hot shower.
Tuesday CJ and I spend the day picking up and doing laundry. We put all of the Christmas and Hannukkah decorations away. It was nice to have everything back in order. I love the decorations but I hate all the clutter that is created by them.
CJ was supposed to on Wednesday go on a date with Conner but he texted her in the morning and told her that he was sick and could not go out. So we decided that we would spend the day shopping. We went to the Mall and had fun goofing around. We tried to find her a new cell phone cover for her new phone so that it did not get broken. With that said we did not find a cover and after we left Costco she dropped the phone and it broke the screen. I was so disappointed. CJ thought that I yelled at her and keep saying she was sorry. I did not yell at her I just said, "Oh, CJ! I thought that you were going to leave the phone in your bag until you had something to protect it," I had to work on changing the subject because she was upset that she broke the phone and thought I yelled. I did not tell her dad about the phone but CJ told him right away when he got home. He did not get upset which I think made her feel better. We ordered her an Otter box from Amazon and I told her to keep the phone in her purse until it came in.
Thursday, Conner had invited her to go with him, his mom, aunt, and cousin sledding in the mountains. I told her to have fun and that it would be good to get to know Conner's mom. He picked her up at 9:30 and they left for the whole day. It was really quiet being here at the house by myself during the break. CJ texted me only when they were coming home from the mountains to tell me that they were going to dinner before coming home. My Life 360 went off at 8:18 saying that CJ was home. The cat was funny and know that sound so she went to the door and stood there waiting for CJ to come inside. CJ never came inside. She stayed in the car with Conner until her crew at 10:00 exactly she walked in the door. After about 30 minutes of waiting, Katana walked away from the door and stopped staring at it. CJ told me that she had a good time sliding and that Conner's mom and Aunt were very nice and asked her a lot of questions. She said that it was funny when Conner fell asleep in the car Conner's mom started to tell CJ embarrassing baby stories about Conner. She did not tell me much because he said that she was tired and had to get up early for work the next day.
The next day CJ got up and went to work. CJ said that she did not want to go to work because she said that the kids were going to be bad but when she got home she said it was not as bad as holiday camp last year, but it was only one day. Jay and I cleaned the house because CJ was going to have Emma and Milly over for an early New Year's Eve Party. Since Milly had to babysit on New Year's Eve they decided to hold the party a day early. CJ planned for them to make homemade pizzas and a hot cocoa bar. They then played games and sleep in the living room watching movies.
In the morning, CJ made a breakfast casserole for the girls and they made vision boards for the New Year. It was a good way to end the year. Spending it with Friends. She then went to Milly's for the night to spend New Year's Eve with her helping her babysit.
