CJ loves peanut butter cups. I got a text stating that Krispy Kreme stating that they had a promotion come in for a free Peanut butter cup donut. I decided to suprise CJ. I woke her up and told her that we were going to breakfast and shopping. I did not tell her where we were going, but CJ said that she loved surprises because every time that her dad or I try to surprises her it is always good. On our way we came close to Chick-fil-A, I told CJ that is where we were going and she told me that she did not believe me because I am a good mom and would not take her to Chick-fil-A. I think I have the only southern child that does not like Chick-fil-A. She was happen when we got to Krispy Kreme. She had a hot chocolate, oreo cookie donut, and a peanut butter cup donut. She said that they had the best hot chocolate. She did not like the peanut butter cup donut very much, but loved everything else. We then went shopping and got her some new pants because she had grown out of her pants and some of her dresses she will not be able to wear to school with out pants under them.
Thursday Jay woke up and said that he did not what to go to work. He called in and told me to look on line and see if there were any spots at the beach for camping. I looked on line and there was nothing. So Jay started looking for ideas. I had been stating that this summer with my surgery and CJ going away to camp we were not able to take a family vacation but that I really wanted to do something. The next thing that I know Jay made reservations for Chattanooga, TN. Jay took Garrett there 20 years ago and had been talking about wanting to take CJ there ever since we moved here 11 years ago. We quickly packed and off we went. We had reservations on the Southern Bell river boat cruise for 7:00. The traffic was really bad driving up but we got there with plenty of time.
The dinner cruise was very nice and the views were so beautiful. The cruise was right at sundown so we watched the sunset over the river on the boat. At one point we went up to the captains deck and CJ got to sit in the captains seat. The captain showed her how they drive the boat and then joking around as CJ if she had it. CJ said that she had it and then the Captain said Ok when I am going down stairs to get a drink and waked out of the deck. CJ got very nervous. The captain was only joking and walked right back in, but CJ was not having that and jumped right out of the captains seat. Jay and I just laughed. It was so much fun. The captain was very funny and joked around a lot with us.
The next day we got up and went to the Tennessee Aquarium. It was a very nice Aquarium and large. CJ loved the touch tanks the best and Jay really liked the penguins. I can not say what I liked the best because I was just enjoying it all. I did enjoy see the shark. Outside the Aquarium they had some areas where kids could play in the water. CJ liked playing in the water to cool off while Jay and I sat int eh shade and watched her. After going though the large aquarium it was nice to just sit and relax.
After we relaxed I really wanted to go see the old train station and Chattanooga ChooChoo. I said I could not come all the way to Chattanooga with out see the Chattanooga ChooChoo. Jay was very tired and just wanted to go back to the hotel and rest for a bit. But he sucked it up and got on the Shuttle to go across town to the old train station. The station is now a hotel, but you can go in the lobby to see the station and behind it was the gardens and old trains. The gardens were beautiful and trains were really neat. We got to climb on the trains and the stations architecture was amazing. Jay and CJ got some ice cream which made them feel better about coming out the station. They did not want pictures taken because they were hot and tired. In the end Jay said that he was glad that we went out to the station. It was worth the trip.
As we got in the car to go back to the hotel just looked at his phone and he had missed some calls from work. It turns out that he won the perfect attendance award for July. We all could not believe it and had to laugh because he had called in so that we could take this trip. Only Jay has that luck. We then went back to the hotel and rested. On the way back to the hotel I saw a working pay phone. I could not believe that there was still one that existed. I had to take a picture of it.
The next day we got up to go home. Jay said that we should stop in Rome, GA have breakfast and try to find great grandma's grave again. After waking that cemetery 3 times before I was not sure we would ever find the grave site and I was not sure that I wanted to go. Jay said that we really should try. So off we went. We were not able to eat breakfast at the restaurant that we wanted because they were closed. We went to the Landmark which was not as good but filling. We then went up to the cemetery. I had an old letter written in the 1970's from my grandmother that gave directions to the grave site. I could not believe how easy we were able to find it. The stone was so dirty that you almost could not see her name. We spend some time just cleaning the dirt and fungus off the stone. We used water and a stick to clean it. It was so great to find it and spend some time taking care of the stone.
After we left Rome just took CJ to the American girl doll store. CJ was so happy. The cemetery was not her thing and made her sad so going to the American girl store made her day. CJ spent a long time in the store and finely decided on two outfits for her American Girl Doll pets. We then went to Starbucks for coffee and cookies before we left. CJ wanted an ice mocha but she took one sip of it and did not like it. We also got her two macaroon cookies from the macaroon store next to Starbucks. It was a good way to wrap up the day.
