March 2020

When I woke up Sunday, March 1st in the most beautiful house little did I know that my world would change and go crazy this month.

The first week of March was normal.  CJ was telling me that her ear hurt and by Tuesday it was very swollen and red.  On Wednesday I took her to the doctor and it turned out that she had an infection in her earlobe that had gotten into her lymph nodes.   So she had to take medication and keep squeezing her ear to get all the infection out.  The doctor said that this happened because she got dirt in the area of her piercing.  We think that it started because she was having trouble getting an earring in one day and we forced it which may have cut it.  After a day her ear started to feel better.

On Saturday we decided that because the weather was going to be nice we would go to Warner Robins, Georgia to see the Air Force museum.  We would have lunch with Garret and go to the Museum as a family.  CJ took her friend Emma with which was great.

Jay had never really shown us around downtown Macon, Georgia so by car we drove around and he showed us where he use to work and where Vicky worked.  We then went to the cemetery and saw where the Allman Brother where buried.
The museum was very interesting.  I would have liked to have been able to go into the planes and see what they looked like on the inside but you could not.  CJ got hot, thirsty, tired, and irritated so she started getting upset and just wanted to sit.  She was not being very nice so I just told her to go sit and get it together.  She did like that they have 2 sample cockpits that you could get into.

I was a little embarrassed over  Garrett being such a jerk about not wanting his picture taken with his dad and sister, as well as, all of his cursings in front of CJ and Emma.  It is hard to explain to CJ that her brother has never been around educated people or has friends with a college education and that is just the way that people without a lot of education talk.  She is just not used to hearing that and she just does not like a lot of cursing so we try not to at home.

After we left the museum CJ so wanted her hair cut and I was not able to get an appointment with her beautician. Jay had an idea to take her to the Salon that he used to go to when he lived in Macon.  We went to the shop and his old beautician was working.  It had been almost 18 years since he had gotten his hair cut at this salon but his beautician remembered him. She cut CJ's hair and talked to CJ about her dad coming in with Garrett on Fridays to get his hair cut.  CJ loved her hair cut and it looked so good on her.
On Sunday it was our Purim Carnival at Temple. CJ was so not into it.  The theme his year was Taylor Swift and CJ does not care for Taylor Swift, so she was very disappointed. She did have some fun at the "Minute to Win it" carnival. She wanted to learn to make Hamantoshin, so we got the makings and she did a great job making it.  I had to help her with some of it but most of it she did herself. I took them to school on Monday and CJ was not happy that I gave most of them away.
CJ's Military Ball dress came in and it was not like in the picture.  It did not have pockets like it showed in the picture and it needed some alterations.  So CJ was disappointed in the dress.  I told her that it was going to be ok that when it is ironed and altered it will be so much better.

On Wednesday, I got a call from CJ's school stating that she had another fever and I needed to pick her up.  I picked her up and took her home.  The next day she still had a fever, so I kept her home. She then said that she was throwing up.  I never saw her throw up and her fever was back to normal   I think for some reason that she just does not what to go to school so she is saying that she is sick. I took her to the doctor and she tested negative for the flu and was told that she may just have a stomick virus.  I kept her home on Friday but little did I know I should not have because the world was about to change.  After work on Friday, we were told by the administration that school may close down by Monday and services at Temple were canceled for that night. Religious school for Sunday would be canceled until further notice.  This was all due to a virus that is like the flu but kills people that have other medical problems and our elderly population.  This virus is called COVID-19.

CJ's best friend Milley came to spend the night Saturday night.  The girls had fun and then wanted to go see a movie.  I told them that we could go Sunday afternoon and then take Milly home after the movie.  Sunday we went to see "Onward". It was a great movie about the love of siblings.
When we got out of the movie we found out that the Governor of South Carolina had closed all schools for the rest of the month due to the spread of the virus.  We were not to go back to school until April 1. It was a scramble to try to get everything set up of eLearning for the next day and then to think that eLearning for the rest of the month.  Monday, I went to the school to get books and IEP's that I would need for the rest of the month.  The school would go all online.

I made a crochet Coronavirus just because this is such a weird thing that is happening to us.  Jay gets to continue to work because his company is considered an essential business.  In the next few weeks language changes, everyone starts talking about essential business and employees.  Essential employees have to keep papers in their car so if we go on lockdown they will not get a fine for being out.  The word "Social Distancing" is in everyone's vocabulary.  We are told to stay 6 ft apart from everyone.  Social media is filled with memes about being quarantined and social distancing.  The really weird thing is everyone runs out and starts hoarding groceries and toilet paper.  You could not find toilet paper anywhere.
After the first week of being quarantined and teaching from home, Jay thought that we needed to get out and go fishing. He took us to Chau Ram Park.  They have started to close all the buildings at parks but the park itself was open.  It was busy at the park and a beautiful warm day.  CJ tried fishing with her dad but got bored really quick.  Then she started to get upset and wanted to go home because she had to go to the bathroom.   I told her that she just needed to go in the woods.  She did not want to.  The longer we were there the more and more CJ started to get upset because she would not go to the bathroom in the woods.  She started crying because she had to go to the bathroom so bad and would not go in the woods.  Finely, Jay was upset with her, I was upset with her, and she could not hold it anymore.  I found a private place for her to pee and told her to take her shorts off because she will pee on them if she does not.  She did not want to take her shorts all the way off so she peed on them.  After she went pee she felt so much better and was ok not to leave.  She then wanted to play in the water partly to wash off her short and partly just to play in the water.  She had fun and then her dad found a spot where the fish were biting so CJ went with her dad to fish for a while. She had fun catching fish.  She said fishing is so boring unless you are catching fish.

We continued eLearning and working from home.  I decided that I wanted to paint the paneling in the dining room because I was spending so much time in there.  So when CJ and I want to get water I saw a bucket of primer and picked it up.  I started to prime the paneling.  I have been wanting to get rid of the 70's paneling for years.  It would take me weeks to work on the dining room.  I was so sore every night, but very proud of how it was looking.  Could not want for it to be done.
Over the weekend, as a family, we went to Lowes and picked out paint that would go with our gray cabinet. Again it was a very nice weekend so we worked around the house to get things done. Most of the parks started to close so there were not many places to go, but we found a park and decide to have dinner sitting outside.
My school district changed our schedule so during the 3rd week of quarantine we only have 2 days of school and then we were to start spring break early.  We thought that we were going to go back to school after spring break but at the end of March, the governor said that schools would remain closed through the end of April. So I was just going to think about that after spring break.
