September 2021

September is always a busy month and this year was no different.  CJ was going to sing for the high holidays so she had Choir practice every weekend.  The month started with Labor day weekend which means camping for us.  This year we got to go to Huntington Beach.  Jay was worried about the long drive and the trip being short.  I was just glad to have one day at the beach during warm weather. On the way there the truck started to act up.  The fuel filter went out. Jay had to pull over and try to find one at an auto parts store.  He got very frustrated and it did not make a good start to our trip.  We got to the beach and started to set up the camper and then sent to get groceries.  Jay and I could not communicate correctly which caused us to argue some (more just frustrated with each other).  CJ got very embarrassed by our behavior because she did not what her friend to see us argue.  I told CJ that sometimes that just happens with grownups just I understand her embarrassment.

We set up the tent for the girls to sleep in because the weather was so nice.  They really liked having their own space.  The first night we made fish tacos which I think helped everyone relax and get in the beach mood.

Sunday, Jay got to spend the day fishing,  CJ and Millie went to the education center, Atalaya, and to the beach to hang out in the water.  I enjoyed walking the beach and looking at all the creatures, also well as putting my feet in the warm ocean water.  It was very relaxing and a nice peaceful day.  CJ and Millie decided to name the alligator that is at Huntington beach.  After all the years of going there and seeing the alligator this year is the year she named the alligator.  So the alligator is officially named Steve by CJ.

In the early evening, we went to Friendly's for dinner and let the girls go to a gift shop.  Then Jay and I came back to the beach and took an evening stroll on the beach to watch the sunset.

The next day we got up and packed up so that we could get home in time for Rosh Hashana Services at 7:00.  The holidays are so early this year.  I do not remember Rosh Hashana falling on Labor day weekend before.  It is always after Labor Day.  The president of the temple's sermon was very good but Rabbi's sermon was mostly about getting vaccinated from COVID which I did not think was helpful to me learning about Torah and being a better person.  That is a healthy choice to be made by you and your doctor. I was very disappointed and have not felt the same about the Temple of Israel since we got the new Rabbi.  I was really disappointed when Roger came up to CJ and me and told us that Kym could not find anyone to teach during religious school.  I told him well no one asked us.  I really felt like we were not considered part of the temple after that.  We have been helping with religious school for 12 years why did they think we would just stop helping. Very disappointed with the temple.
Because Rosh Hashanah was the day after Labor day and I was at a new job I did not take the day off.  CJ took the day off school and drive herself to Greenville for services.  I was so worried about her driving to Greenville on the highway with all that weekday traffic.  She did it.  She said that the traffic was bad but she made it with no problems.  I just held my breath the whole day.

CJ had her first reality check with how much things cost.  She decided to get her own gas in her Jeep.  She filled it up and then texted me to tell me that it cost $45 to fill up her tank was is 4 hours of work. It is so good that she is learning how much things cost and how much bills are.  Jay and I decided that she was also going to pay part of her car insurance to help her understand having to pay bills.  She has to pay $25 a pay period for her insurance.

The next week we did the same thing.  I went to the evening Yom Kippur services but CJ had to drive during the day services because I had to work.  CJ told me that on the way to the morning services on Highway 81 there was an accident and the traffic was backed up.  She stated that it was her assistant principal that was in the accident on the highway.  She knew this because she saw him as she passed the accident.  I was so worried about her but again she did well.  I guess she needs that experience driving. During CJ's solos this year the mask got in the way of her being loud and really projecting.

At work was glad to have Mrs. Cothran back.  We also changed my schedule around at Marshall and I really liked how it was working.  It was so much better for the kids.  I was able to help them out more.  I was hoping that I would get to stay at Marshall full-time.  I am really liking being at Marshall.  I know that won't happen this year but maybe next.

CJ's cat, Katana, was sick and we had to take her to the vet.  She has asthma.  This poor cat has had so many things wrong with her but she is a very happy cat.  Jay was not happy with how much all of her medication was going to cost.

I had been feeling so left out at work and CJ has as well.  We were so happy to get a call from Millie's mom wanting to know if we wanted to have a girl's night out with the kids.  I was as great.  I told CJ not to make any plans on Saturday and would not tell her why.  She had American Girl Club in the morning we all decided to go to breakfast together take her to the museum and then go shopping.  All the way to breakfast her dad was giving her a hard time about want we would be doing that night.  Finely we told her.  At first, she did not seem excited about getting together will friends for a night out but I think it was because she was upset about us giving her a hard time.  That night we went AX throwing with the Listers and McDowells.   It was so much fun and CJ had fun making trick shots with the ax.  She was laughing because the only time she could hit the board was when she was making trick shots. We then all went to dinner and to a place called the Ice Cream Factory where they made ice cream using liquid nitrogen.  It was so nice getting together with friends and laughing.

The next weekend Jay and I went and got flooring for the hallway upstairs.  I just painted the floor was not working so well.  The plyboard collected all kinds of dirt and hair.  The mop would not run crossed it so I had to get on my hands and knee to wipe it down each week.  It was not fun.  I can not wait for the new for to go in.

CJ wake up one morning stating that her foot hurt.  By afternoon the school nurse called me telling me that she was crying and could not walk on her foot.  I had her go home from school and when her dad got home from work he took her to urgent care.  They did not find anything wrong with her foot so they just gave her tylenal and sent her home.  She said for about a week that her foot hurt.  We have no idea what was wrong.

CJ finely got her classroom.  It took forever for it to come in.  I told her that it will probably be the most expensive piece of jewelry she will ever own (at over $300).  She loved it and I hope that she is like me and 34 years later is still wearing it.
CJ is still having trouble with some of the kids at school.  She told me about how they are still talking about the incident last year.  I told her to ignore them and I tell the councilor about it.  She was upset because the councilor told the assistant principal.  She really does not like the assistant principal.  I also emailed the Mr. Jones because I was not going to have him telling me that he never heard about CJ being bullied.  CJ was upset with me and cried because she did not want the principal to know.  Then Mr. Jones told me that he would make sure that CJ was ok and take care of it.  CJ was happy that he was not going to accuse her of something.

CJ's boss at work had a problem at another school and asked CJ to work at Spearman.  CJ was not happy about it because she was going to have to drive, but she want anyway.  CJ said that the kids at Spearman were really bad and she could not wait to get placed back at Palmetto for work.  We told CJ that it was good that she helped out her boss without complaining and they will remember that but we looked her being at Palmetto to because we did not like her leaving right after school like that to hurry to another school.
